Man on moped leads police on chase

HENRICO, VA (WWBT) – Henrico Police say they made a quick arrest following a not-so-quick pursuit of a man driving a moped.

We're told 45-year-old James Dowdell was driving on Mechanicsville Turnpike just before 5:00 p.m. Friday. Officers attempted to stop him for a traffic violation, but Dowdell kept going.

Police say after a brief chase, Dowdell left his moped in the middle of Mechanicsville Turnpike near Eculid Road, and then ran into the woods.

Dowdell was quickly arrested and charged with eluding police. He allegedly told officers he chose to run because he had a felony warrant on file.

That was true. Police say Dowdell also now faces a grand larceny charge.

The entire pursuit lasted just three minutes.
