RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - Many people were out enjoying the year's first, First Friday Art Walk and along with all the open art galleries and businesses - there was a special group of volunteers patrolling the area.
About a dozen Guardian Angels spent the evening walking along Broad Street, keeping an extra eye on the night's events and the people.
Art walk is popular among Richmonders who want to celebrate local artists, but last fall, violence in the streets temporarily shut it down.
Guardian Angels say they want to help reduce crime.
"We have to detain someone and hold them for the police we will, if we see something happening we'll call the police immediately...we are prepared for things that happen we are trained to be out here in neighborhoods like this," said Commander Jo White.
Guardian angels are looking for volunteers right now. Many of them are trained in martial arts and self defense.
