Man arrested after police chase

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - A Richmond man led police on a high speed chase while in possession of ecstasy and marijuana, according to State Police.

Officers arrested Matthew G. Shea of Richmond early Friday morning after a 10 minute chase that reached speeds around 100 miles per hour.

State Police say a trooper stopped the suspect on 195-north at Laburnum in Richmond for reckless driving.

They say when the trooper walked to the man's car, he drove off and that's when the chase started.

Investigators say the man took the Laburnum exit, went south on I-195 and took the Broad Street/Hamilton exit.

They say he hit a parked truck and kept on driving to Henrico.

Henrico police put out their spikes to get him to stop. It worked on at least one of the car's tires.

He was arrested near the intersection of Broad and Parham.

Shea faces seven charges in Richmond and Henrico County, including felony eluding, possession of ecstasy and marijuana with the intent to distribute, and reckless driving.
