Man claims loaded gun in suitcase was a mistake

HENRICO, VA (WWBT) - A Virginia Beach man accused of walking into the Richmond International Airport with a loaded gun says the incident was an accident.

46-year-old Christopher Shackelford says he had no idea the gun was in the bag and doesn't usually take that bag when flying.

Back in November, Shackelford was heading from Virginia Beach to Knoxville on a business trip when he was re-routed to Denver at the last minute.

That's when he arrived at the Richmond Airport, went through security, and TSA agents pulled him aside. They say they found a loaded gun inside his carry-on luggage.

Shackelford's case was scheduled for a hearing today, but has been rescheduled for February 1st at the Henrico Courthouse.
