RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - A former Henrico police officer pleads guilty to producing child pornography.
31-year-old Allen Hoffman admitted he took multiple nude pictures of underage high school students. Hoffman met his victims by pretending to be a professional modeling photographer.
Hoffman served as a Henrico Police officer for seven years. He worked in the intelligence unit. Now, he'll serve 13 years behind bars as part of a plea agreement.
Hoffman pled guilty in court Wednesday morning to two counts of producing child pornography.
Hoffman's defense attorney, Jeffrey Oppleman, says his client used bad judgement and is remorseful.
"He wanted to spare everybody from coming to court and he wanted to take the punishment he felt he deserved and go on with his life," said Oppleman.
The crimes happened between January and April of 2010.
Prosecutors say Hoffman used the online site Craigslist to advertise photography services for models.
Jeffrey Oppleman: "He was making contact through the computer with people. He offered certain services -- being a photographer and things just occurred. These were not unwilling situations."
Nicole Bell: "Is he a professional photographer?"
Jeffrey Oppleman: "I can't answer that question."
On at least two occasions Hoffman ended up at an area hotel with underage high school girls.
He took photos of one girl touching herself inappropriately. Hoffman took pictures of another teen girl -- who was naked.
"I think he realizes what he did was wrong, but I don't think the gravity of it all has hit," said Oppleman.
Hoffman must undergo treatment while serving his time. Once he's released he must register as a sex offender.
Since Hoffman is a former police officer where he'll serve his sentence is not being made public.
