Spotsylvania County employee charged with DWI

SPOTSYLVANIA, VA (WWBT) - An employee with the Office of the Spotsylvania County Commonwealth's Attorney is facing a DWI charge following a multi-vehicle crash Friday night.

According to Virginia State Police, 38-year-old Amy Harper is charged with driving while under the influence of alcohol, refusal to take a blood or breath test, and following too closely.

The accident happened just before 11:00 p.m. Friday on Salem Church Road near Ross Drive. Three vehicles were involved, including Harper's 2006 Porsche SUV.

Police say Harper was traveling southbound in the left lane on Salem Church Road, when she struck another vehicle in the rear, which then pushed that vehicle into the rear of a third.

There were no injuries in the crash.

Commonwealth's Attorney William F. Neely says Harper is now currently suspended from her position, pending trial, but won't comment any further on the matter.
