Fatal Car Crash in Louisa Friday

LOUISA, VA (WWBT) - Virginia State Police are investigating a deadly, single vehicle crash in Louisa County.

It happened just after 2:00 p.m. Friday on Route 618, Belsches Road, which is approximately 1/10 of a mile west of Route 634, Bagby Road.

State Police say the crash occurred when the driver of a 2010 Toyota Prius ran off the right side of the roadway and struck a tree. The vehicle was heading westbound on Route 618 at the time of the crash.

The driver, identified as 72-year-old William F. Martin, was wearing his safety belt and was flown by med-flight to Mary Washington Hospital in Fredericksburg with serious life-threatening injuries.

Martin's wife, Gail, was sitting in the passenger seat, and was also wearing a safety belt, but died at the scene.

The Louisa County Sheriff's Office is assisting Virginia State Police with the on-going investigation.
