CHESTERFIELD, VA (WWBT) – If you waited until the last minute to buy your Christmas presents, you're not alone. Shoppers packed area malls all day and night Friday.
Chesterfield Towne Center was crazy Friday night. Just finding a parking spot was a challenge. Most shoppers, though, took the chaos in stride in the hope the gifts will bring some holiday cheer to loved ones.
Anthony Quarles isn't afraid to admit his procrastinating ways.
"I am definitely doing some last minute Christmas shopping," he exclaimed. "I am a slacker!"
He's not kidding. Quarles confessed he pretty much hadn't bought one thing when he arrived at Chesterfield Towne Center Friday night. But Quarles loves the Christmas crowd. His pregnant wife Destyne, on the other hand, isn't a big fan.
"It's a madhouse," she described. "I mean, it took us 15 minutes to get into the mall!"
Some people braving the holiday hustle and bustle told NBC12 they waited until the last minute because they simply didn't have time to squeeze in shopping between work and other obligations. Others said they purposefully waited to cash in on the deals right before Christmas Eve.
While most malls in our area closed at 11, Toys R Us shoppers have even more time. Stores are open 24 hours.
That's ok with little Mitchell Hall, who said he loves shopping. He even bought a toy for his baby sister.
"I'm gonna set up the bowling pins up and she's going to roll it and probably knock it over," he explained.
Dad Joe said it was so chaotic in the store Friday night; he might have to make another trip early Saturday morning.
"Just to beat some of the crowds this time," he hoped.
Most malls in our area open bright and early Saturday morning. But they won't be open as late. It is Christmas Eve, after all. It's a good idea to check with the store to make sure they're still taking last minute customers before you head out.
