Hundreds storm stores for shoe release

CHESTERFIELD, VA (WWBT) - The holidays can be a stressful time of year especially as you search for that one "must-have" item to put under the tree. As we come closer to the big day, people are pulling out all the stops to get the items on their wish lists. That was the story Friday at Chesterfield Towne Center as people lined up to buy a pair of shoes!

Based on the size of the crowd and number of police sent to maintain order you would think it was Black Friday all over.

"It was hectic a lot of people were trying to get shoes," said shopper Zane McDonalds. "Everybody was fighting."

"It has to be a good 200 to 250 maybe even more," said shopper Pop Richards.

Across the country the lines were much longer. Some people even camped out. These are not last minute Christmas shoppers they are all after one thing, shoes - the Jordan Eleven Retro Cconcords. For sneaker lovers, it's a must have.

"These are the Retro Jordans so they are bringing them back a lot of people want them," said Richards. "They didn't get them when they were kids."

"I am a little ecstatic," said shopper Curtis Harris. "I didn't wait in the cold and rain for no reason."

Harris and two of his friends showed up hours before the mall opened. They say these special edition shoes are released every year around this time. The shoes are popular, but they can't ever remember things being this wild. After the long wait and anticipation, finally, success, and of course the shoppers say it was all worth it!

"It's something about the Jordans that hit the soul," said Harris. "From when we were growing up these are the kicks you must have."

The big question: how much will these limited edition shoes cost you? About $180.
