Morning bank robbery in Fredericksburg

FREDERICKSBURG, VA (WWBT) - The following is a press release from the Fredericksburg Police Department.

A bank robbery occurred just before 10:00 Thursday morning at the First Citizen's Bank, 3205 Plank Road in Fredericksburg. A male subject entered the bank and presented a note to the teller that indicated his intent. A weapon was not displayed. The teller handed over a quantity of cash and the suspect fled from the bank.

The suspect was described as a white male in his 30's with a thin build and no facial hair. He was wearing dark sunglasses, a black stocking hat, gloves, and a grey hooded sweatshirt. He was last seen running behind the Regal Cinemas that is located next door to First Citizen's Bank.

Police and deputies from Fredericksburg and Spotsylvania County were on the scene within two minutes and immediately began searching the area. Evidence that included some of the suspect's clothing, a backpack, and at least a portion of the stolen money was recovered on the ground behind the movie theater building. A die pack had activated with the stolen cash.

A K9 unit from Spotsylvania County conducted an extensive track in the area but the suspect was not located. The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information about this case is asked to contact police at 540-373-3122.
