RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - Roanoke city police are investigating an incident that led to one of their officers shooting and killing two pit bulls.
They say that their officer on a routine patrol saw a woman being attacked by the two pit bulls. The dogs were biting the woman and at one point knocked her to the ground. As the officer was trying to free the woman from the dog, he was forced to shoot and kill both of them.
The department has now opened an investigation, which they claim is routine any time an officer is forced to shoot his gun. Their belief is that he did nothing wrong.
The woman escaped the attack with just a few bumps and bruises.
Charges were filed against the dogs owners. They weren't arrested, but they've been issued court summonses.
