Treating skin abscesses

CHESTERFIELD, VA (WWBT) - Dr. Sheila Clasbey has seen many skin abscesses lately at Primary Health Group--Brandermill.

They usually look like a cyst that becomes swollen and painful, or a boil that appears on the skin.

Don't squeeze or pick at cysts. Be aware that some staph infections are spread through contamination of breaks in the skin

Treatment includes warm wet compresses to the area; if it drains, continue the compresses to facilitate drainage.
