I-95 bridge restoration project could cause traffic problems

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - Be prepared to step on your breaks this week if you're driving on I-95 southbound.

Some parts of the interstate will shut down as V-DOT continues its bridge restoration project.

The roads will be especially busy this week as people leave to see family for the holidays.

And V-DOT wants people to know the areas they may want to avoid, or at least allow yourself some extra time if you're passing through.

They want people to know it could slow down their travel time.

The department of transportation is replacing 11 bridges from Lombardy Street in Richmond to Upham Brook Road in Henrico County.

The ramp onto Northern Boulevard from I-95 will close from 8:00 p.m. Monday until 6:00 p.m. Tuesday.

So when you're using I-95 southbound through Richmond around the Laburnum, Lombardy area, you might just want to expect at least one closure or possibly two during this time.

Then Tuesday and Wednesday, V-DOT will shut down one lane on I-95 south during the day and two lanes at night.

Traffic will be slow between Hermitage Road and the Boulevard.

All should be clear by the end of the week.

V-DOT will stop all construction Friday and pick back up again after Christmas.
