RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - First-year head coach Danny Rocco will make his Spider debut in familiar surroundings but on enemy turf when Richmond opens the season at Virginia Sept. 1. Rocco was a Cavalier assistant from 2001-05. The game marks the ninth consecutive season Richmond has played an FBS opponent, including three meetings with Virginia in the past five years.
Rocco's home debut comes the following week, Sept. 8, when Richmond opens its third season in Robins Stadium. The Spiders kick off a five game home slate with a first-ever meeting against Gardner-Webb.
A visit to long-time rival VMI awaits the Spiders Sept. 15, followed by a first-ever trip to CAA Football newcomer Georgia State in the Georgia Dome Sept. 22.
A new state and conference foe, Old Dominion, makes its first trip to Robins Stadium for the Spiders' Family Weekend game Sept. 29.
Villanova returns to the schedule when Richmond visits Philadelphia's Main Line Oct. 6. The teams did not play last year. A trip to New Hampshire is set for Oct. 13, the Spiders' last road game until a visit to William & Mary Nov. 17.
