RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) – Where is Matthew Henry Williams? It's a question investigators hope you can help answer. Police are calling the circumstances surrounding Williams' disappearance "suspicious."
Police say Williams was last seen around 11 o'clock Tuesday night -- leaving his Cary Street apartment with three unknown males. A few hours later, two of those men were seen trying to break into the missing man's apartment.
23-year-old Matthew Henry Williams is new to the area. He came to Richmond from North Carolina three weeks ago. He moved into an apartment at the Lofts at Canal Walk in the1900 block of East Cary Street.
Word of his disappearance has neighbors, like Chris Ruffolo, concerned.
"It's an unfortunate situation. We saw detectives yesterday after hearing what you just said -- it's unfortunate. Kind of scary," Ruffolo said.
Another neighbor, Gary Osborne, lives a few doors away from Williams.
"Everyone is friendly. We look out for each other. Unfortunately he's so new we never got to meet him," said Osborne.
Family members have not heard from Williams since Tuesday. That's also the last time he showed up for work at Wells Fargo.
Police say Williams was last seen on Tuesday night -- around ten o'clock. Surveillance video shows Williams entering his apartment building with three men. An hour later -- the men and Williams are seen leaving the apartment.
Then, a few hours later, two of the men are back at Williams' apartment - forcing their way inside his home.
"It appears that the men were breaking into his apartment. He wasn't present. We see them taking items out of the apartment -- that raises the level of suspicion," said Captain Emmett Williams.
Police say the identities of those men captured on surveillance with Williams are unknown. We do know -- Williams frequented Lucky Buddha and Cha Cha's in Shockoe Bottom.
He also takes medication for anxiety and bi-polar disorder.
Investigators have not released the surveillance video of Williams and those unknown men. If you have any information on the whereabouts of Matthew Williams, call the Richmond police tip line at 514-TIPS (8477).
