Capitol Tree Lighting ceremony back on Richmond

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) – The public is invited to the annual "Capitol Tree Lighting" on Tuesday, December 20, at 5:15 on the South Portico of the Capitol downtown.

This has been a family tradition for many people all around the Commonwealth... but when the filming schedule clashed with Capitol Christmas events, many were disappointed to hear that the tree lighting was canceled because the "Lincoln movie crew had taken over Mr. Jefferson's capitol."

Governor Bob McDonnell and the first lady are spreading the word that the annual tree lighting will take place after filming concludes on December 20.

It's free and open to the public, along with open houses, also on Tuesday, December 20 and Wednesday, December 21, from 10 until 4pm.
