RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) -- Some wicked weather rolled through the area and caused quite a bit of damage. We were able to see a lot of the damage in and around the Stratford Hills area, which is mostly in the dark tonight.
It's becoming an all too familiar sight for people in the Straford Hills neighborhood: Pitch dark, with trees down all over the place.
Some people left in the dark even decided to help out unsuspecting drivers, who had no idea their drive was about to come to a screeching halt.
"One of our neighbors tried to back up in front of the tree and got stuck. We are just trying to keep everybody else from doing the same thing," says Cathy Wheeler.
One tree even blocked us from getting through.
We found fire crews on just about every block trying to put up caution tape around downed power lines and police officers closed off even the main streets like Hugeunot Road because of the trees that toppled over.
There are at least three reports of trees into homes in Richmond, but luckily no one was trapped and everyone is safe.
Dominion Power brought in some extra crews from other parts of the state to help with the clean up.
Also, crews will only be giving estimated restoration time for your lights once damage assessments are done. That is most likely to start sometime on Thursday.
