This race is one of the most watched in the country this is the first big showdown in what will be a long race to the finish line.

This first debate between Tim Kaine and George Allen is part of the annual "Associated Press" day at the state capitol. It is not generally watched by a wide a big crowd. Generally it plays primarily to the press and political junkies.

That could mean that both sides will test some things out and see what might work and what might not.

Of course while Kaine and Allen are the front runners, both sides will have primary challenges from lesser known candidates.

Those candidates were not invited to Wednesday's debate.

The debate takes place at 1:30 on December 7, at the state capitol.

It will be streamed live on timesdispatch.com and we will provide a link here on nbc12.com.
