Thomas Haynesworth exonerated following appeals court ruling

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - The Richmond man who spent 27 years wrongfully imprisoned for rape has been fully exonerated.

Today, a panel of judges declared Thomas Haynesworth innocent of all charges.

Haynesworth was paroled and released from prison in March after DNA tests pointed to another man for the crimes.

This latest development means Haynesworth no longer has to register as a sex offender and  his record will be erased.

A press conference is scheduled to take place late this afternoon.

Two people are being helped by the Red Cross, after a fire broke out at their Richmond home. Crews tell us the fire broke out in the 5500 block of Campbell Avenue around 10:55 this morning. When they got on scene, fire crews saw flames coming from the back of the home. They were able to get the fire under control in about 15 minutes. Officials say everyone got out safely, but the damage was so bad, that a man and woman living in the home have to find a new place to live.
