Fugitive Friday: Murder suspect still on the loose

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) – This weeks' featured fugitive is Dominique Rafael McLauren. He's wanted by Richmond city police for conspiracy to commit murder in the death of Charles Lee Smith Junior.

In the early morning hours of October 22nd Richmond police found 26-year-old Charles Lee Smith Junior shot in the 300 block of German School Road. Smith was rushed to VCU Medical Center where he died. The shooting put the neighborhood on edge.

"It was alarming, it was alarming. It's like maybe a stone throw away, so it lets me know it's not as safe as I thought it was," said Demetric Morton.

"At this point we believe it may be an argument, maybe a dispute over some money," said Detective Jason Pittman with the Richmond Police Department.

Police believe Dominique Rafael McLauren was involved in the crime.

"During the investigation and interviews of witnesses Mr. McLauren along with another suspect have been developed as the offenders in this case," Pittman said.

The other suspect was arrested but, McLauren is still on the loose. Police believe McLauren knew Smith and the incident erupted into violence when Smith came to collect a debt that was owed to him.

"During the process of him trying to get his money he came to this area where he was shot," said Pittman.

McLauren's last known address was here in the 4000 block of McKay Drive in Richmond. Police need your help in getting Dominique McLauren off the streets.

"He's a suspect in a violent crime there's a potential always for further violence and actually we need to bring closure to Mr. Smith's family," Pittman added.
