GLEN ALLEN, VA (WWBT) - Shortly after 3:30 a.m. this morning, Virginia State Police responded to the scene of a tractor-trailer crash in Henrico.
This happened on the southbound ramp of Interstate 95, near I-295.
That's exit 84B in Glen Allen — not too far from the Virginia Center Commons area.
The crash occurred when the driver lost control of his vehicle and ran off the left side of the roadway on the access ramp. The tractor-trailer overturned and hit the guardrail before coming to rest onto its roof.
The driver of the tractor trailer, 31-year-old Mike L. Hylton Jr. of Osgood, Indiana, had to be cut out of the vehicle after he was pinned inside by the guardrail for about 90 minutes. He was taken to VCU Medical Center to treat his injuries, but is expected to be okay.
The truck was carrying empty liquor bottles, some of which spilled out from the trailer.
Expect heavy traffic in the area while crews clean the area — that could last for most of the day.
Speed is considered a factor in the crash. Hylton was charged with reckless driving.
