Witnesses of Powhite pedestrian accident sought

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - Richmond detectives are looking for people who may have witnessed the pedestrian accident on the Powhite Parkway earlier this week.

Around 10:00 pm on Monday, officers were called to the emergency lane on the northbound side of the James River Bridge on the Powhite Parkway for a report of a man stuck by a vehicle.

The 24-year-old woman who was driving told officers she and her boyfriend were arguing when he struck her several times. Police say she stopped the vehicle half-way across the bridge in the emergency lane and the man got out of the car.

Police say the woman then attempted to drive away. That's when police say the 26-year-old man jumped in front of her vehicle and was struck. He was taken to the hospital where he is still in critical condition.

Investigators are asking anyone who may have witnessed the incident or seen the vehicle—a 1991, maroon two-door Oldsmobile Delta 88—on the side of the road to call Detective Mark Allen at (804) 646-0280.
