Richmond, VA – RVA On Ice announces the 2013 – 2014 Winter Season which begins Saturday, November 23, 2013 and runs through Monday, January 20, 2014. An official opening ceremony with Mayor Dwight C. Jones and special guests is scheduled for Monday, November 25 at 5:00 pm immediately followed by a free skate session presented by the mayor. The rink will also be open on Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, November 28 from 4:00 – 10:00 pm.
This marks the 4th season of RVA On Ice which has become a downtown holiday tradition with residents and visitors alike. Participants enjoy skating under the sun, stars and the beautiful Richmond skyline. Classic holiday music plays and skaters can warm up at the fire pit while the concessions stand serves hot chocolate, S'mores and other snacks. Free arts and crafts sessions are offered by Parks, Recreation and Community Facilities' Office of Cultural Arts Programs on Saturdays and other special events and appearances will occur throughout the season.
New to the experience this year will be dress-themed days including "Wear Your Tackiest Holiday Sweater" and "Disco Dance Party" among others. Christmas trees will also be available for purchase, while supplies last, with proceeds benefiting the March of Dimes. Regular hours are Wednesday and Thursday from 4:00 to 10:00 pm, Friday from 4:00 to 8:00 pm, Saturday from 12:00 to 10:00 pm, and Sunday from 12:00 to 6:00 pm. The rink will be reserved for private rink rentals (groups, corporate events and private skating lessons) on Fridays from 8 - 10 pm and Sundays from 6 - 8 pm, as well as Saturdays & Sundays from 10 am - 12 pm.
