South Richmond house fire ruled arson

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - A fire that destroyed a South Richmond house Monday morning is has been ruled arson, according to fire officials.

It happened just before 6 a.m. in the 2100 block of Edwards Avenue.

The fire was so intense part of the second floor collapsed.  No one was injured

The home was vacant because the owner was renovating the house to rent it.

The owner, Bernard Massenburg, told NBC12 he believed someone was trying to burn down the home.  On Saturday, he found evidence of someone being inside and attempting to set the house on fire.

Damage is estimated to be more than $150,000.  Massenburg said he is not sure if he will rebuild.

The fire is still under investigation.  Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 780-1000.
