RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - It was an emotional night this Thanksgiving eve for one family who lost two loved ones in a car crash.
29-year-old Shunquetta Howie and her 7-year-old daughter Isriana died when their car slammed into a slow moving delivery truck on Chippenham Parkway last Sunday
An 11-month-old boy survived that crash - little Jayr is not even a year old and has lost his mother and sister in a tragic crash.
Jayr will now be in the care of his grandmother Rosa Jones. He may never remember the accident, but Grandma Jones will never forget how he was lucky to survive the tragedy.
"That's the only thing that saved him, the car seat saved him," said Jones.
It's been a tough week.
"It's hard, it's real hard because they're with me every day," said Jones.
Some of the last conversations Jones and her daughter Shunquetta shared was about thanksgiving dinner.
"My daughter, she already told me that she had gotten the turkey and got the trimmings and she wanted to know when I was going to start cooking," Jones said.
In a community candle light vigil in front of their home, the emotions were overwhelming and at one point Jones collapsed in the arms of family.
Candles were lit in honor of Shunquetta and Isriana and Thanksgiving will be a sad one this year, but Jones says she now has little Jayr to raise.
"It's going to be hard trying to raise him without Isriana," she said.
But she'll do the best she can, without her Isriana or Shunquetta by her side.
