Holiday travel season underway

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - More than 42 million Americans will brave the hassles and headaches of holiday travel.

Whether it's by plane, train or automobile, the weather could make getting to your destination a little difficult this year.

You may be looking forward to Thanksgiving dinner, but if you're one of the millions of people traveling for the holiday, the trip itself may give you indigestion.

All eyes are on the weather. A huge storm system is expected to cause flight delays.

More people are traveling this Thanksgiving. It's the first increase in holiday travel this year.

Gas prices are also up. The cost of a plane ticket is up too, and if you didn't plan on staying with family, you'll pay more for a hotel room.

If you plan to take a train, you'd better think about how you're getting to the station. Amtrak warns that parking will be tight at the Staples Mill Station. In fact, it expects most if not all of the spaces will be gone by sometime Wednesday. Amtrack suggests you find someone to drop you off and pick you up.

If you run into any problems at the train station or airport, travel experts suggest turning to social media. Just use your smart phone and tweet someone with your airline. There have been many cases where they have helped solve your problem that way.
