RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - Goochland's Justin Verlander won the American League Most Valuable Player award Monday afternoon.
Verlander has become the first starting pitcher in a quarter-century to win an MVP award. He also won a Cy Young Award last week.
The Baseball Writers' Association America announced Verlander as the recipient, after he received 13 of 28 first-place votes and 280 points.
Governor Bob McDonnell took to Twitter to congratulate the Goochland native:
"Congratulations to Goochland HS and @OldDominionUniv grad Justin Verlander on winning both the Cy Young and AL MVP awards this year!"
