Va sex offenders on roof to protest treatment

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - Two sex offenders detained at a psychiatric facility have climbed onto the roof of a building and are refusing to come down until they talk to an official about their treatment at the Burkeville center.

Offenders at the facility tell The Associated Press the men climbed a fence around 11:30 a.m. Monday to get to the roof, which is connected to the main building. The men had sheets around their necks, tied to a building support, all of which could be seen from a nearby highway.

Virginia State Police are at the scene, but did not immediately have a comment.

Offender Timothy East says the men are demanding that someone from the state Department of Behavioral Health and Rehabilitative Services talk to them. The department didn't immediately have a comment.
