Update: overnight shooting and robbery suspect in custody

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - The Richmond Police Department has arrested the suspect in last night's robbery and shooting. Akil S. Adams, 33, of the 2300 block of Carmine Street, was arrested and charged with robbery and possession of a firearm. Additional charges are pending.

Wednesday night at approximately 9:45 p.m. officers responded to a call of a robbery and shooting in the 3400 block of Jefferson Davis Highway. Two adult males were found suffering from gunshot wounds and were transported to VCU Medical Center with injuries that are not considered life threatening.

Detectives and investigators worked through the night developing leads. At one point in the investigation, detectives believed Adams might be occupying a room in the Jefferson Davis Motel located in the 3300 block of Jefferson Davis Highway.

The SWAT team and Negotiators were called to the scene to safely move guests from the area and to search for Adams. Adams was not at the location. Throughout the morning, investigators were receiving additional information from the community.

At approximately 9:30 a.m. they located Adams in a residence in the 2500 block of Lamberts Avenue. He was arrested without incident. The Department wishes to thank those members of the public who provided information and assisted in the investigation.
