State delays funding vote on city jail

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - Plans for the new city jail may soon go back to the drawing board, after news of a recent funding snag.

The State Board of Corrections met and decided to delay a vote that would reimburse the city for part of the cost of building the new jail.

The Times-Dispatch reports the board is concerned about the size of the cells being too small for the bunk beds. It also questioned if there were enough beds in the plan to address overcrowding.

The board did approve other aspects of the plan.
