House fire destroys a Prince George home

PRINCE GEORGE, VA (WWBT) - Fire crews battled a house fire early Wednesday morning.

The fire started on the second floor.

Firefighters say an alert neighbor called 911 because no one was home.

The fire started around 1:00 a.m. at a two story house in the 6400 block of Prince George Drive.

Firefighters say they could see heavy flames coming from the second floor of the house.

While inside trying to put out those flames, a firefighter fell through the second floor after the stairwell collapsed.

Crews took him outside and checked him out. He should be okay.

The homeowner got there as firefighters were trying to put out the flames.

It took them about an hour to get control.

No one got hurt in this fire.

Investigators say at this point they believe it's an accident.
