Blacksburg, VA (WWBT)- Dorenzo Hudson scored 31 points to pace the Virginia Tech men's basketball team to a 78-63 win over Florida International. The victory improves the Hokies' record to 3-0 on the young season.
Virginia Tech would open up a 25-12 lead with 5:51 to play in the first half, but the Panthers responded with an 11-0 run to pull to within two by the time the clock hit 2:34. The Hokies would go on a mini-run and go into the locker room on top 33-26. The second half would see the Hokies open up the lead to as many as 19 points and would hold a double-digit lead for the last 11:25 en route to their third straight win.
Hudson put together his big night shooting 8-of-13 from the floor and hitting all 12 of his free throw attempts. Freshman Dorian Finney-Smith posted a big night, as well, scoring 14 points and pulling down ten rebounds, while Erick Green scored 12 and Victor Davila chipped in eleven points to round out the Hokies in double figure. As a team, Seth Greenburg's club put together a very good night from the floor, shooting 52 percent.
The Hokies now head to Madison Square Garden for the semifinals of the Preseason NIT. Virginia Tech will face fifth ranked Syracuse on Wednesday, November 23, for the right to move on to the tournament championship game.
