Child and mother hit by a car

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - A pregnant mother and her two year old son were hit by a car at a West End Shoney's on West Broad Street.

Officers say the two-year-old boy and his pregnant mother were both taken to VCU Medical Center.

The boy has severe injuries, his mother's are not as bad.

Officers say the mother is seven months pregnant.

This all happened just after 8:00 Monday night.

Police say the mother and son were walking out the restaurant with family when the little boy ran into the street.

The mother ran after him and the two got hit.

Someone ran inside the restaurant to get help.

Many of the workers shaken up.

"The woman came in," Shoney's employee Tiffany Dickey said. "A couple of ladies came in screaming, the little baby got hit, a baby got hit. It was definitely scary. A few of the girls who were working here started crying. They were a little upset because it definitely was scary right off the bat."

That restaurant employee tells us that a server inside is also an EMT and helped out.

Police say they are still investigating this accident.

They say it could be a while before any possible charges could happen.
