Suspect in Petersburg copper metal thefts arrested

PETERSBURG, VA (WWBT) - Police in Petersburg have arrested the suspect believed to be behind a series of copper thefts, mostly from the Summit Point Apartments.

22-year-old Barquest Warren is charged with multiple counts of breaking and entering with intent to commit a felony, and grand larceny.

Petersburg Police tell us they are working with area scrap metal dealers to curtail the exchange of stolen metal for cash.

Warren is being held without bond in the Petersburg City Jail.

Police in Petersburg have seen an increase in metal thefts in the area and are reminding people to report all suspicious activity. Warren was first reported by a citizen who saw him carrying a duffle bag of what appeared to be copper pipes.
