Head-on collision on Mayo Bridge, two remain hospitalized

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - Two people remain hospitalized following a crash that temporarily shut down the Mayo Bridge early Sunday morning.

Police tell us just after 2:00 a.m., an SUV and a car were traveling on the bridge when they had a head-on collision near 1st and Hull streets.

Four people were taken to VCU Medical Center, one with possibly life-threatening injuries.

The driver and passenger from one vehicle only had minor injuries and were treated and released. As of 9:30 a.m., the driver and passenger from the other vehicle remain hospitalized.

No word yet on whether or not charges will be filed.

The Richmond Police Crash Team is currently investigating.
