RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - Kennedy Kemei was the first man across the finish line in the Suntrust Richmond Marathon. He completed the course in 2:13:45. That's a new course record!!!
The SunTrust Richmond Marathon offered a "double your money" bonus for any winner who also broke a course record – along with a $500 bonus for any man who could run the 26.1 miles in under 2 hours and 20 minutes. Since Kemei did all that, he's walking away with $5500 in prize money.
The winner of the women's race is Mekides Bekele. She completed the course in 2:47:50.
NBC12 would like to congratulate Gina McGee, of Virginia Beach. She was the first Virginia woman to cross the finish line with a course time of 3:00:02.
