Pit bull attacks 10-year-old boy in Henrico

HENRICO, VA (WWBT) - A 10-year-old boy remains in the hospital following a violent pit bull attack Friday evening.

The attack happened just before 10:00 p.m. in the 4700 block of Hillbrook Ave.

A 12-year-old girl called police to report that family pit bull was attacking the 10-year-old boy. When police arrived, officers attempted to pull the dog away from the boy, but the dog then charged at them. A Henrico officer was then forced to shoot the dog.

The gunshot wound didn't kill the animal, but it was later euthanized at a nearby veterinary hospital.

At last check, the boy was undergoing surgery at VCU Medical Center for multiple, severe bites.

Henrico Police tell us the pit bull had previously been quarantined for attacking three people on one occasion, then attacking one person on another occasion.
