CHESTERFIELD, VA (WWBT) - A crime alert in Chesterfield, where more than a dozen vehicles were vandalized Wednesday morning in one neighborhood. It happened in the Ashley Forest Subdivision -- that's near Harrowgate Road. Now, the victims want your help to find who's responsible.
Neighbors call it flat-out wrong. Someone slashed the tires on 15 vehicles.
"It's disappointing. I don't know why somebody would do this," said Dwayne Taylor. Two of his tires were damaged.
"The tires on my car only two years old. Now I have to come out of my pocket and pay for these damages," he added.
The vandalized cars were parked on the street in the Ashley Forest Subdivision.
Police say the vandal or vandals struck between one and four o'clock Wednesday morning. In all, 39 tires were slashed.
Three tires on Mark Jemmott's truck were damaged.
"It's bad just senseless -- something that should have never happened," said Jemmott.
A crime that caused him to miss work.
"I thought somebody let the air out. I went to fill it up with my air compressor and it was still leaking. I looked around and noticed I had two more tires flat - then I knew something was wrong and called police," he added.
Neighbors say the crime has caused them to be on alert.
"We have to stick together as a community to keep our eyes and ears open," said Taylor.
The victims have a strong message for whoever's responsible.
"If you wouldn't want somebody to do it to you, don't do it to somebody else because it's not a nice feeling," said Taylor.
Police say it's unclear if the vandalism was committed by the same person.
