HENRICO, VA (WWBT) - The polls have been open for six hours and a number of voters in Henrico are having a hard time casting their ballots.
A polling station in the west end is one of nearly 20 locations in Henrico that mistakenly assigned about a thousand people to the wrong precinct. Many of people showed up to the right location but then found out they weren't in the poll book. All of them were able to cast a provisional ballot and county officials say those ballots will be counted just like a regular ballot.
There was also a problem this morning at the Pocoshock precinct in Chesterfield. The Board of Elections says the power was out there briefly and poll workers had to use a backup generator to keep things running. No voters were turned away and we're told the power is now back on.
Turnout can be low during these off-year elections but so far poll workers say they're surprised at the turnout. We've talked to poll workers in a few precincts and they say the turnout is higher than they expected and there's been a steady stream of people all morning.
If you haven't voted, you still have some time left. The polls close tonight at 7pm.
