Police investigate deadly overnight shooting

PETERSBURG, VA (WWBT) - Police are investigating a deadly overnight shooting in Petersburg.

It happened outside the Salem and Sons convenience store off Boydton Plank Road.

Detectives are talking to witnesses and looking at surveillance video from the store hoping to catch the killer.

Police say 28-year-old Lonniel Edmunds, Jr. went to the Salem and Sons convenience store to buy some snacks.

After walking out the store, police say someone shot him in the parking lot.

Officers say Edmunds was shot twice.

Investigators say the suspect drove off towards Interstate 85 in a black Lexus with a Virginia license plate —the last four digits: 1757.

There's a very vague description of what the suspect looks like — a sketch of the suspect could come out today.
