Hit and run on Halloween weekend

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) -  Police are trying to solve a brutal hit and run near the Fan. It happened Saturday night, right in front of Bogart's restaurant in the 1800 block of West Cary Street. Police say a woman and a man was crossing the street when a car hit the female victim.

One of several witnesses told us she saw the whole thing, and asked us to hide her identity. She was outside that night, sitting on the curb waiting for a cab when it happened.

"Next thing I know, a car came out of no where and was probably going 50 or 60 miles an hour, and next thing I know I see something fly through the air and lay on the other side of the road face down," she said.

She and other witnesses say the victim was thrown into the air like a rag doll.

The impact was pretty severe. Police say the victim was hit on her left side and she sustained bruises, lacerations, and fractures to her left arm, knee and lower leg.

"It was indescribable, it scared me to death," said the witness.

Another witness, Samantha Hewlett, works at Bogarts and remembers a lot of screaming.

"They had cut off a heap of bloody clothes and just the scream, if it was her, just in shock or pain, because it was almost incoherent," said Hewlett.

Hewlett says she notices how fast cars drive out here.

"I definitely think people drive a lot faster than they need to in this part of Cary Street…it can definitely be scary for someone who's out here who has too much to drink especially like a weekend like Halloween," Hewlett said.

Right now there is a lot of mixed information from the suspect's vehicle so, if you have information that can help police, call crime stoppers at 780-1000.
