CHESTERFIELD, VA (WWBT) – Police arrested a homicide suspect 23-year-old Quindell Kirby for the murder of a Petersburg cab driver.
Irene Kirby-Giles says she found out what her son was being accused of, the day before the arrest. She said the call she made to police gave them the green light to move ahead and arrest her son.
"As a mother, knowing, what am I supposed to do? You know, I can't just sit back. I love my son but murder is not the answer to nobody's problems, and I love him to death," she said.
Kirby was arrested for the murder of Petersburg cabbie, 49-year-old Peter Ambrister. He was a driver for Boulevard Cab Company, the same company where another cabbie, Raphael Cudjoe, was robbed and killed back in March.
Police say they don't know if Kirby is connected to the March murder but Kirby's mom says it's a possibility and will question her son about it.
"I don't wish this on anybody's mother or anything, but my condolences out to these people that was lost in the hands of my son," she said.
The image police released of Kirby is of him wearing an orange jumpsuit. But his heartbroken mother wants to remember her son – as a once us army soldier with big dreams.
"I'm sorry. I don't know what happened with my son. He was a good son, somewhere he went wrong. I'm really sorry and my prayers are with you. I hope she takes my condolences and my prayers," she said.
