HANOVER, VA (WWBT) - Wednesday afternoon, the Hanover County Sheriff's Office updated the public on the search for Robert Wood, Jr.

The nine-year-old has been missing at the North Anna Battlefield Park since Sunday afternoon, but authorities still have high hopes.

In Wednesday afternoon's media briefing, Captain Mike Trice said it's the belief of the Hanover County Sheriff's Department that Robert is still alive.

Officials stressed that the search effort remains a rescue mission.

As of Wednesday afternoon, 74 missions have been completed involving 940 volunteers and more than 300 trained professionals. Crews continue to comb over a 22 square mile area, working tirelessly to find Robert.

Survival packs have been left in the woods for Robert, with bottled water, food, blankets, and glow sticks. However, none of those packs have been touched.

Search efforts will continue Thursday. Volunteers are asked to meet at 9:00 a.m. at Kings Dominion.

We'll continue to provide updates on the search on NBC12 on-air and online.
