Dinwiddie DUI suspect charged in Petersburg burglary

PETERSBURG, VA (WWBT) – A man arrested in Dinwiddie for driving under the influence, has been charged with stealing beer in Petersburg.

The burglary happened Tuesday morning in the 2000 block of West Washington Street.

According to police, 24-year-old Michael Belcher of Chesterfield, gained entry to a business through the front window, took a beer from the cooler and left.

Later, Petersburg Police received a tip that their suspect may have been stopped in Dinwiddie for DUI. Officers were then able to verify Belcher's involvement in the burglary.

Belcher is charged with breaking and entering with intent to commit a felony. Other charges may be pending.
