We're paying it forward to a bachelor who suddenly found himself being a surrogate parent to an active pre-teen, while also caring for his own critically ill mother. His friend calls him a strong, inspiring role model who deserves an Act of Kindness.

We're paying it forward in Chesterfield to a woman her neighbor calls "the most compassionate caretaker." Not only is she managing her own family's serious medical issues, she's opened her home to displaced families and pets, and looks after kids around the apartment complex.

A knit hat warmed a local woman's "heart" so much, she tracked down the person who knitted it and nominated her for today's Acts of Kindness.

We're paying it forward to a woman who takes care of seven hundred children and dozens of adults several days a week. She's such a great asset to her school and everyone in it, she's been voted support staff person of the year several years in a row and today she's our Act of Kindness recipient.

Lots of us remember an exceptional teacher who made us believe we could succeed at anything. Today a grandmother and cancer survivor is paying it forward to the educator she says has given her confidence that she absolutely will earn the diploma she's been longing for. Their teacher-student bond is this week's "Acts of Kindness."

Today we're paying it forward to a dynamic young CEO who is passionate about children, education and empowerment. She committed to nurturing future generations of local leaders and today a loyal supporter is making a three hundred dollar Act of Kindness investment.

HIGHLAND SPRINGS, VA (WWBT) - We're passing on $300 to a long-married couple, who are long-term caretakers of their Highland Springs community. He keeps yards nice and tidy. She sweetens people's lives with delicious baked goods.

A neighbor says Joyce and Bunny Cobb give endlessly and never want recognition, so she's surprising them with an Act of Kindness.

Joyce Cobb rarely uses store bought cake mix, she'd rather mix her own .

"Because it's something I love to do," Joyce said.

She's been whipping up sweet treats for decades

"To give to other people and share," Joyce said.

Joyce shares with the neighborhood.

"She's a marvelous cook. She'll do yard sales, bake sales, pancake breakfasts, spaghetti dinners," said neighbor Barbara Coleman.

Barbara has lived near the Cobbs since 1968.

"When I moved to Highland Springs, they were the first people that I met, and we've been friends ever since," said Barbara. They're both amazing. They go through the community, and they help the elderly and sick. To top it off she's a cancer survivor. She'll take a dose of chemo one day, next day she's back in the kitchen baking cakes."

While Joyce is busy baking and canning fruits and vegetables for family and friends, her husband of 52 years is pulling down yard duty.

Bernard Cobb, or Bunny, keeps lawns neatly trimmed  for physically challenged neighbors.

"I cut the lady's lawn over here, I got one more round the corner, two on the other side of Nine Mile Road," Bunny said.

"He serves as a taxi also," Barbara said. "You can see him anytime riding up and down the street in his red van. He'll take ‘em to the doctor. I've had to call him to pick up trash and take it to the landfill. I just love both of them dearly."

Barbara says we'll likely find Joyce at her second home, the neighborhood church, where she heads up the food pantry program that regularly feeds the hungry and homeless.

Today, Joyce and her team think they're being honored by a local food bank.

"I'm so proud to know them and do this for them," Barbara said.

"Nobody deserves this more than Joyce, she's a wonderful lady," said a friend of Joyce.

And her wonderful partner? We found him at home.

"I was laying down. Me and the dogs was taking a nap," said Bunny.

When we told him about the cash…

"It was something I would never expect," Bunny said. "That $300 was hers."

And Joyce had plans to spend it.

JOYCE: "We'll go shopping and buy food for the pantry."

BARBARA: "I kind of figured that's what you would say. We'll buy something extra special for Joyce."
