HANOVER, VA (WWBT) - Right now the Hanover County Sheriff's Department, the Virginia State Police, and the Caroline County Sheriff's Office are searching for a missing nine-year-old autistic boy.

Deputies say that Robert Wood, Jr., also known as Robbie, was last seen walking along one of the trails at the North Anna Battlefield Park with his father, brother, and a family friend around 2 p.m. Sunday.

Officials tell us the boy took off into the woods and has not been seen since. Wood has autism and is non-verbal, so search crews are trying to be especially thorough.

He is described as average in weight and height for his age and has blonde hair and blue eyes. He was wearing a red long sleeve T-shirt, blue athletic pants, and blue athletic shoes.

Volunteers are not needed at this time. Emergency personnel are using K-9 units and a helicopter to search the 80-acre park. Deputies are also searching the river that's north of the park.

We'll bring you updates on this developing story when new information becomes available.
