Justice Cleo Powell sworn in

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - The first black female justice has been sworn in on the Virginia Supreme Court.

The General Assembly elected Justice Cleo Powell to fill the vacancy created by the death of Justice Leroy Hassell, Senior.

Before joining the Supreme Court, Powell served more than two years on the Virginia Court of Appeals.

Before that, she was a circuit court and general district court judge for Chesterfield County and Colonial Heights.
