RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - A community is concerned after a late night shooting left one man dead. Richmond Police are calling this a death investigation as they look for clues.
Officers found the man dead on the 2200 block of Chateau drive in the Timbercreek Apartment Complex off Orcutt lane.
The only crime tape neighbors want to see right now is a reflection of the Halloween spirit, but they saw something a little too real when police taped off one area of Chateau Drive after the shooting. It came as a shock for tenant, Sharise Yates.
"I was surprised because I have never had anything that happen over here."
The mother of three says she locks her doors every night. Another neighbor, who didn't want to be identified, says he got down on the floor as soon as he heard roughly eight shots.
"I hit the floor because I have two kids in the house," he said. "That's kind of scary knowing there are kids out here, so we don't need anything like that."
Police are still investigating the deadly shooting which occurred just before 10:30 Thursday night near the back area of the apartment complex.
Even though neighbors are a little unsettled, Yates says this death investigation won't keep her from moving out.
"I like living over here," Yates added. "It's decent. I'm not gong to move. Stuff happens everywhere."
The medical examiner will determine exactly what happened. Police say they're still in the early stages of the investigation. This is an isolated incident, and they tell us they are not looking for a suspect. Investigators have not released the victim's name at this time.
