Press release from Richmond Police Department
RICHMOND, VA - Sheriff C.T. Woody, Jr. today reported the termination of an employee and the suspension of another for failure to follow Richmond City Sheriff's Office policy and procedures that led to the accidental release of a jail resident on September 28, 2011.
An internal personnel investigation revealed that the employees failed to adhere to policies and procedures resulting in the improper release of Inmate Maurice Emile from the Richmond City Jail.
Sheriff Woody said, "I am extremely disappointed this improper release occurred. There are policies and procedures in place to avoid situations like these. I cannot emphasize enough the importance of paying strict attention to details and information supplied by individuals prior to being released."
The terminated deputy was hired in April 2008 and dismissed earlier this week. The suspended employee has been with the agency since August 2008.
