Henrico zoning board to hear appeal for feral cats

HENRICO, VA (WWBT) - The cat fight continues Thursday between one Henrico woman and the county.

She's received a violation notice after caring for and feeding several feral cats at her home.

The woman who feeds these cats says she's just caring for them, but the county and other opponents say she's attracting unwanted guests to the neighborhood.

Susan Mills will go before the Henrico County Board of Zoning Appeals.

She wants to continue taking care of feral cats at her west Henrico home.

The county has already sent her a number of violations citing her for keeping more than three adult pets.

The SPCA says Mills has had the feral cats neutered.

She does not keep them all in her home — she just feeds them.

Even though some agree her compassion is helping these cats, other neighbors complain it's unsanitary for the cats to be around.

According to an article in the Times-Dispatch, Mills has cared for feral cats for more than 30 years — and she does not want to quit now.

The hearing will start at 9:00 Thursday morning.
